Città delle Idee
Can a micro-city become a living manifesto for the future of construction? Città delle Idee, envisioned by Mario Cucinella Architects for CairoRcsMedia as a flagship installation at Milan Design Week 2026, answers this by turning urban space into an open stage for architectural dialogue. Here, computational design meets contemporary building practices, weaving together three distinct materials and construction methods into a unified, human-scale landscape.
At the core of this structural interplay lies our contribution: nearly 700 bespoke 3D-printed modules, accounting for roughly 22 tons of material, designed from day one to interface effortlessly with the other building systems on site. Rather than adapting standard elements, each piece was conceived directly from digital code to physical form, eliminating the constraints and waste of traditional formwork.
This project also marks our first collaboration with Heidelberg Materials, pairing their newly engineered 3D-printable cementitious mortar with our proprietary manufacturing setup. At our Valdagno facility, a robotic arm integrated with the Feeder DM80 pumping system and the Extruder TS25 translated cutting-edge material chemistry into solid architecture, layer by layer.
Moving from factory precision in the Veneto hills to rapid assembly in the heart of Milan, Città delle Idee marks a new chapter in our ongoing synergy with Mario Cucinella Architects, proving that robotic prefabrication can scale both in volume and expressive freedom.
